Banff and the Rockies

Picked up the hire car this morning and were lucky that the chap at the counter has South African parents and the shoe box size car we had rented was upgraded to a big American chevy, with a huge vroom under the hood. After a magnificent 2 hour drive we arrived in...

They have a gondola which whisks you up the mountain in 5 mins and is a thrilling ride with the most spectacular views. What was equally good was the strategically placed Starbucks next to the area where you get onto your gondola so the trip up was done in style with lattes and frapaccino. How times have changed, that a 9 year old orders 'a no coffee chocolate frapaccino and hold the cream!"

The views from the top were breath-taking with a brisk breeze reminding you of exactly how close to the clouds we were.

Ross soon discovered the family of chipmunks which put Chip and Dale to shame with their very cute begging act- an old Italian woman gave him a chunk of nut chocolate to feed the chipmunks, on the basis that it was allowed due to the nut content!!

We had the tourist look about us today as were asked on many occasions to take picture of other people so managed to ask the same favour in return and got some great family pics.

Once down the mountain we went to Minnewankee lake and Ross decided he needed to go paddling despite the near freezing water temp. He lasted under 2 minutes! Definitely a case of mom knows best.
