Fish, fish and more fish

A farewell to the brilliant staff at Langara, Ross bid Caroline goodbye and has subsequently trying to work out their age difference and how old she would be when he is a grown up. Alas she is getting married next year so will have to set his sights elsewhere.

Same arrival procedure in reverse, helicopter transfer then 2 hour plane ride to Vancouver. Said a very sad farewell to new friends, Ross so sad to say
goodbye to Andrea and Alison, both sisters who happen to share names with 2 of Ross's aunts. Gustaf and Estelle leaving for SA and promises to visit on our next trip to SA.

6 boxes of fish weighing 210 lbs!!!! Goodness me. Well our original itinery has us staying in Vancouver for 3 days and then flying to Las Vegas. But what with the fish. So change of plan, having friends up in the Okanagan we decided to trade 2 nights accommodation for a hire car and off we went back up to the Okangan. 5 hour drive!!
On the transfer to the car hire place we met one of the Langara guides who knows Bud, small world. A quick bit of history, Bud is a very famous rug y player in Canada and was a guest player with the south sea barbarians when they played in SA in 1987. He was approached by Polly for an 'autograph' and the rest is history. Well on the 12th August this year, Bud is being inducted into the BC rugby hall of fame. What an absolute honour.

As it is a long weekend in Canada we had a choice to strap the fish on the roof and get a Mr Bean type car or go for broke with a big tank. Trev was in charge and the driver, so no guesses what we got.

Fantastic drive and I decided that I need a new car, pity the price of fuel is not this cheap in the UK as it positively drinks the stuff. A Lincoln Navigator with satellite radio and about 8 different ways to adjust your seat (no massage button though!).
Dinner at 8pm in Merritt, at, as you may guess, A&W!

The home of the family burger.

Arrived back at Polly's at 10.30pm to a great cup of tea. They were overwhelmed at the amount of fish and thank goodness they had a huge freezer for space for it all. The fish was going to be redistributed to the Williams and Polly's mom and sister's family, so at least it would not go to waste or get very very smelly in our luggage over the next 5 weeks.
