Isabela

The day started with a panga ride followed by a power hike up to a lake in the summit of one of the 5 volcanos of Isabela. The island is the biggest in the archipelago and is shaped like a sea horse. We were around the tummy area on the west coast. Wind and water erosion has sculptured artistic swirls and overhangs on the cliffs.

Along the coast we saw the Galapagos penguins and pelicans although the water was rather choppy and it was tricky to keep your balance as the boat went up and down and try to get clear picture.

We landed on some lava rocks which were home to a couple of territorial bachelor seals and just had to share the path with them as they slowly made their way.

Then off on the power hike which was up up and up past the Darwin lake

and ended at a lava pile. Amazing how light the lava rock is and full of greens, reds and glinting pieces of glass.

We saw lava lizards and a variety of finches and ani birds.
