Well the water got rougher and we learnt how to ride the rapids which was primarily a case of hanging on for dear life and making sure you had 2 separate hand holds. Getting wet was a relief in the oppressing heat and we made sure that we kept up with the suncream and hats.
We pulled up next to a small beach and it was amazing what the guides managed to manufacture for lunch. Chicken salad sandwiches and nice cold drinks that had been hanging in bags over the side of the raft.
Feeling very lethargic, we boarded once more for the afternoon session in the heat, the guide had a big water sprayer which he used liberally to wet us in between the rapids.
Eventually stopped at the night camping spot at 4pm with the sun still high in the sky and we made short work of unpacking the raft and setting up camp. We were to sleep on camp beds under a sheet and sleeping bag.
I was so hot that I had to abandon Trevor who was making up the beds, and go and submerse myself in the river as was no longer being rational and had a terrible headache from the heat. Within minutes the whole gang we in the river with soap shampoo etc for a nightly wash. The water was so silty that dropping the soap was not an option!
The days clothes were stained from the red silt and even after washing my white cheese cloth shirt and Ross's costume are forever a taupe colour!
Deck chairs out, supper of spaghetti bolognaise followed by cheesecake, ended with a good evening of conversation and Ross telling jokes.
Into bed and in the absolute darkness were awed by the multitude of stars and we desperately tried to keep awake to see a shooting star and it was only 9pm.
