It was not long before we saw the first gambling machines.
We were just swept over by the shock of hot dry heat that hits you when you leave the air conditioned airport. Must have been over 40 degrees. We caught a taxi to the Desert Rose Resort, very middle of the range but this is where we are picking up our rafting trip. We are at the south end of the Strip and were gobsmacked by how long, ornate and hectic then Strip is.
We needed to pick up a few bits for our rafting trip like shoes
Water bottles etc and I needed a wide brim hat. We caught a bus to the outlet shopping mall. Ross found a cute cowboy hat in the Lids shop.
We walked a bit up the Strip but were exhausted by the heat, managed to find the M&M shop
And then left Trevor with $20 to win a fortune and Ross and I retreated to the airconditioned room. Dinner at the next door casino (sadly Trev had not won dinner money) but we had an amazing meal which was very very cheap - part of the ploy to get you into the casino for food and then keep you for gambling. Ross had a ribs and chicken meal for $6 which included a chicken breast and full rack of ribs, plus fries plus corn. needless to say it could have fed a family of 4 or possible just 1 of the very large people we have seen here. Trev's beer(s) were $1.50.
